It Is What It Is: Living a Life Rooted in Virtue

Cultivating a Life That Reflects God’s Character

Beloved, as we embark on this new season, I invite you to journey with me into a year of spiritual transformation—one where we deepen our faith, strengthen our witness, and allow God’s character to be fully formed in us. This year, we are committing to being Rooted in Virtue, letting the qualities of godly character shape our hearts, minds, and actions.

The world defines success by wealth, power, and influence. But the Word of God teaches us that true greatness is found in a life that reflects His nature. Throughout this year, we will study and cultivate love, patience, kindness, humility, compassion, forgiveness, faithfulness, joy, gentleness, peace, self-control, and gratitude. These virtues are more than admirable traits; they are the fruit of a life surrendered to Christ.

What Is Virtue?

Virtue is the evidence of God's work within us, shaping us into the image of Christ. It is moral excellence, an unwavering commitment to righteousness, and a reflection of God’s holiness in our daily lives. The apostle Peter exhorts us in 2 Peter 1:5-7 (NASB):

“Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in moral excellence, knowledge, and in knowledge, self-control, and in self-control, perseverance, and in perseverance, godliness, and in godliness, brotherly kindness, and in brotherly kindness, love.”

Virtue is not simply about outward behavior but an inward transformation. It is a heart yielded to God, choosing to walk in righteousness and extend grace even when it is difficult. As we root ourselves in Christ, these virtues will grow in us, bearing witness to His presence in our lives.

A Year of Growth

Each month, we will focus on one virtue, examining its biblical foundation, its impact on our lives, and the ways we can actively cultivate it. This journey will stretch us, challenge us, and at times, require deep soul-searching. Growth is not always easy, but it is always necessary. If we remain steadfast, allowing the Holy Spirit to refine us, we will become like trees planted by streams of water, flourishing in every season.

Let’s Grow Together

Church family, this is our calling. To be Rooted in Virtue is to live a life that glorifies God, one that draws others to Him through our love, integrity, and faithfulness. As we step into this year of growth, let us commit to seeking His heart, walking in His ways, and allowing His Spirit to shape us.

Are you ready to grow? Are you ready to see God do something new in your life? Let’s take this journey together, trusting that He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6).

Short Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we begin this year of growth, plant within us the virtues that reflect Your heart. Make us steadfast, humble, and full of grace. May our lives be a testimony of Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s get rooted. Let’s grow in virtue. Let’s live for His glory!
