Beloved, life can be full of uncertainties, worries, and anxieties that can weigh down our soul. However, we serve a God who promises us peace and rest in the midst of life's storms. Today, we will look at Psalm 91:1-8, which reminds us of the security and comfort we can find in God's presence.
Seek refuge in God
The Psalmist begins by saying, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1). When we seek refuge in God, we find safety and security in his presence. God is our hiding place, and when we abide in him, we can rest assured that we are protected from the storms of life.
God is our fortress
In verse 2, the Psalmist says, I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.' God is not only our hiding place, but he is also our fortress. He surrounds us with his protection and strength, and when we trust in him, we can rest in the security of his love.
Protection from the enemy
Verse 3 says, Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. God protects us from the attacks of the enemy, whether they come in the form of physical harm, emotional pain, or spiritual warfare. When we rest in God, we can trust that he will deliver us from every trap and danger.
Under His wings
Verse 4 says, He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge. God's love is like a mother bird who covers her young with her wings. When we rest in God's love, we find comfort and protection from the storms of life.
His faithfulness is a shield
In verse 4, the Psalmist says, His truth shall be your shield and buckler. God's faithfulness is a shield that protects us from the lies of the enemy. When we trust in God's truth, we can rest in the knowledge that he will always be faithful to us.
No fear in the night
Verse 5 says, You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day. When we rest in God's presence, we can find peace in the midst of fear. God is with us in every moment, and when we trust in him, we can overcome the fear that tries to hold us back.
Protection from disease
Verse 6 says, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. God protects us from physical harm and disease. When we trust in his healing power, we can find rest in the knowledge that he is our healer.
Beloved, Psalm 91 reminds us that we can find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. When we seek refuge in God, he protects us from the storms of life and gives us peace in the midst of uncertainty. May we always remember that we can rest in the security of God's love, and may we trust in him to guide us through every moment of our lives. Amen.
